Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary has over 90 years of experience working in the care and rescue of koalas and other wildlife species. With 430,000 visitors each year, the Queensland, Australia, zoo’s mission is to protect and conserve our environment and wildlife through education and by connecting people with nature.
Also a member of ZAA Australasia, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary has joined global nonprofit Species360 and will record and share husbandry and medical records for nearly 500 animals using the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS). The Sanctuary plans to use ZIMS for Medical and the Global Medical Resources to manage veterinary evaluations, scheduled procedures, preventative care and treatments.
The largest koala sanctuary in the world, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is dedicated to improving our knowledge of this iconic marsupial. By using ZIMS, the institution will not only record data but also contribute that data – though aggregated and anonymous – to global Species360 data on the species.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary also supports research and collaborates with accredited zoos and sanctuaries to assist research projects to protect native wildlife. It has helped to advance knowledge and discovery in the areas of koala growth and development, new koala gut bacterial species, successful eucalyptus cultivation, koala vocalizations, and more.
