At Zoo Amiens Métropole in France, animal care teams are using mobile-friendly ZIMS features to help record animal information directly from the field while continuing their daily care routines.
Zoo Amiens Métropole has been a Species360 member for 28 years and currently cares for more than 700 animals representing 87 species. For Nicolas Lefrique, Curator and manager of ZIMS records at the zoo, mobile tools have become a natural part of daily animal management.
Using QR codes placed in care areas near enclosures, keepers can quickly access the record of a specific animal and enter new information directly into ZIMS from a mobile device.
In a video from the zoo, the team demonstrates this process while weighing animals such as Sumatran tigers and meerkats. After recording the weights, the data is immediately available in ZIMS, where it can be validated and compared against historical weight graphs for that species.
Recording data at the point of care helps teams save time while maintaining accurate records and continuing to monitor animal wellbeing.
Zoo Amiens Métropole’s approach highlights how mobile tools can support efficient record keeping and help animal care teams integrate data entry into their daily routines.

The Species360 Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) is essential for zoological institutions that manage animal populations over long timeframes and across international boundaries. Zoos, aquariums, wildlife parks and conservation organizations depend on accurate zoological information to support animal care, breeding programmes and conservation outcomes. Our system provides the structure needed to record, manage and analyzes animal data in a consistent and reliable way while enabling responsible data sharing between organizations.
