Species360 Team: Katie Curran Joins Species360 as Aquatics Product Specialist

We are excited to announce that Katie Curran, former Registrar at The Florida Aquarium, has joined Species360 as Aquatic Product Specialist.
Since early October, and before permanently joining the team, Katie has served as a part-time, consulting member of the Species360 product management team. In this role, she has helped to develop enhancements to the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) that directly support collection and enclosure management for aquariums.
Katie brings years of experience in aquarium environments. Most recently, she served for nearly ten years as Registrar & Animal Resource Manager at The Florida Aquarium in Tampa. Here, she assisted with the sea turtle rehab program, participated in the scuba dive program, contributed as a member of the Conservation Committee with FAZA (Florida Association of Zoos and Aquariums), and organized more records as a member with the ZRA (Zoological Registrars Association) History Committee.
Katie has also accessioned thousands of corals into ZIMS for The Florida Aquarium coral team that continues to do great conservation work. Prior to the aquarium, she served as Commissary and Registrar Assistant for ZooTampa (previously The Lowry Park Zoo) for two years. Her experience working closely with aquarists for so long, combined with years of ZIMS experience, equips Katie to have an immediate, valuable impact on our team.
“Katie’s aquatic expertise and extensive knowledge of ZIMS will help us achieve our long term aquatic strategic goals,” says Sandy Trautwein, Director of Aquatic Conservation and Product Management.
Over the years as a member of the Species360 community, Katie often shared valuable insight with our team regarding ZIMS and its role in managing aquatic collections and enclosures. Now, we are delighted that Katie will bring her considerable expertise to our team full-time.
Katie enjoys spending time with family which includes her siamese cat. While traveling, she enjoys a good challenge hike and likes to experience the local food. She keeps busy with serving at her local church, babysitting her nephew, and spending time outdoors.
Welcome Katie! We look forward to your ongoing contributions on behalf of our aquarium, zoo, and marine conservation members.
