Welcome! Dr. Sandy Trautwein joins Species360 as Director of Aquatics Conservation and Product Management

We are excited to announce that Dr. Sandy Trautwein will join our team as Director of Aquatics Conservation and Product Management starting February 1. Please join us in offering her a warm welcome!

Dr. Sandy Trautwein will join Species360 as Director of Aquatics Conservation and Product Management. She most recently was Vice President of Husbandry at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California.

As a member of the Species360 leadership team, Sandy will be responsible for Species360 product management and aquatic strategy. Sandy’s experience leading husbandry teams and conservation and research programs, as well as her network within the community, will be invaluable to Species360, our members, and our mission.

Sandy most recently was Vice President of Husbandry at the Aquarium of the Pacific (AoP) in Long Beach, California. Her extensive career in aquarium management and aquatic conservation enables her to bring a wealth of experience and leadership to our team. At AoP, Sandy led a team of 60 staff and more than 300 volunteers and interns; supervised the acquisition, care, and welfare of over 11,000 marine organisms representing over 500 species; chaired the conservation committee, research advisory committee, and the dive control board; led several field conservation and research expeditions to Palau, Pohnpei, and Guam; and served as a taxonomic expert for corals for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).

Strengthening our value and impact for aquatic conservation and animal care is a strategic priority for Species360. We’ve made excellent progress, particularly in growing our aquarium community and delivering features critical to managing enclosures and water quality. We can do much more, and Sandy is uniquely able to help us lead strategic change for Species360 members and the species conservation community as a whole.

In addition to her role at Species360, Sandy will continue to serve on the Marine Conservation Institute Board of Directors. She has served as Vice Chair of the AZA Aquatic Collections Sustainability and Aquarium Affairs Committees, the AZA SAFE Steering Committee for Sea Turtles, and the AZA/USFWS So CA Illegal Wildlife Trafficking Committee

Welcome Sandy!
