Welcome new member Baku Zoological Park, Azerbaijan

We are happy to welcome new member Baku Zoological Park in the capital of former Soviet republic Azerbaijan. Founded in 1928, the zoo occupies an area over four hectares in size near the historic Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a royal retreat dating to the 15th century.

A state-owned facility, Baku Zoo is currently undergoing a major renovation led by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan and the Mayoralty of Baku city. The park will re-open with renovations complete in 2021.

As part of Species360, Baku Zoo will use the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) to curate and share husbandry and medical information on the animals and collections in their care.

This is the first zoological institution to join Species360 in Azerbaijan. Species360 now supports a global membership of more than 1200 zoos, aquariums, wildlife refuges, and research partners in 100 countries.
