We’re hiring! Build software that makes a difference
Do you love your day job?
I spent most of my early career in retail IT. It was a great learning experience and I met and learned from some great people. We did some cool stuff, built some awesome systems and worked with some amazing partners. But, at the end of the day, that wasn’t what I wanted to do. Helping billion dollar businesses make their next billion by getting consumers to, well, consume more just wasn’t a passion for me.
I now work for Species360, a non-profit NGO in Bloomington, Minnesota. We build software used by Aquariums, Zoos and related animal care or conservation organizations around the world. Chances are, if you go to any Aquarium or Zoo worldwide, they will know about our software — ZIMS (Zoological Information Management System). Odds are that they are even a member of our organization. We help them track the data necessary to care for their animals such as general care, feeding and nutrition, breeding plans, medical records, pharmaceuticals and more. Because caring for animals requires significant collaboration between institutions, we specialize in helping our members share data. We were recently featured in a Mongabay article: Top 10 Conservation Innovations. I work with a team that is passionate about providing these services to our members every day. It is so motivating!

We also have a science team headquartered in Odense, Denmark. They leverage millions of records of animals in our system to support veterinary, conservation and other sciences. We are partnering with some of the most incredible conservation organizations in the world to help them save species from extinction. I am excited every day to go to work at an organization that is making a difference.
We are always looking to partner with other organizations with similar objectives. At our core we are a software, data and science team so we we can always use time or advice from experts that share our passion and want to help. Message me if you want to talk @jguenter13
And right now we are hiring a software developer. If you think this might be more fun or more meaningful than your current day job – let’s talk: Software Engineer
2018 is going to be a great year for our team. I will plan to share some of our stories as we go. All the best.
